Big swells, like the ones that have been battering the UK and European coasts these last few days have big swell periods, 12, 13 14 and sometimes 15 seconds plus, but that’s relative, because big waves travel FAST.  Consequently, when things do go wonky in bigger swells, it happens quick, and that’s when training comes in.
