This e mail just in from way down west, Mike Newman
Pancakesville here today, so rummaged through the back catalogue and found these shots for you…
Headed to Levy on a decent looking chart only to find it throwing big choppy brown lumps everywhere at high tide and no-one bothering to surf it. Went to ****secret****spot****deleted****for****your****safety**** for an uncrowded offshore wave, and returned to Levy later. Shot a bit from the shore, but didn’t think it was worth the effort of water shooting the horrible brown murky lumps coming through. Too mucky for the mags, surely?
Eventually persuaded myself to go in anyway, just as it was having a mid-tide crisis and sucking dry off the inside reef. Made it really difficult to swim in for the barrel shot without a severe pummelling. Shifting peaks, people pulling out straight instead of pulling in, barrels not quite pitching meant lots of ‘nearly’ shots.
Sent a few in to justify my time, and forgot all about that session until the mag came out with the shot of Alex on the cover! Where there’s Muck there’s Brass. eh?
